Mo´ning! Here you can see the outline of the Unit of Social Science, the XIXth century in Spain.

Remeber to create it carefully because it is going to be valued as an exam this time. 

You must: 1- build up the structure in paper (the arts-and-craft part).

                 2- complete the information in English. (the summary of the Unit on each part. Remember to select the most important information of each pink text on your book, and explain it with hyphens=dashes)

                3 - learn it, so you can be sure you are able to explain any part of your work, using your Unit papers, when the teacher asks you a question about the nineteenth century in Spain.

You can also use some of these pictures to fulfill your Unit.

(Print or draw the ones you need and write the chosen information at the back of each picture that you select).

 Hi!: Como os comenté aquí os dejo algunas referencias que os ayudarán a ampliar el trabajo de las estructuras de PASADO CONTINUO (llamado también PROGRESIVO) y del PASADO SIMPLE.

Aquí va un resumen de los usos que nosotros estamos viendo:

Normalmente cuando utilizamos when (cuando) y while (mientras) en inglés hacemos una combinación de dos tiempos verbales: el pasado simple y el pasado continuo. Esto ocurre porque mientras estamos expresando una acción que estaba en progreso en el pasado se acción se cruza con otra que en cierta medida interrumpe a la primera, es decir, tienes que dejar de hacer lo que estabas haciendo para atendar a la nueva circunstancia. Por ejemplo:

While I was watching TV someone knocked the door.

(Mientras yo estaba viendo la televisión alguién tocó la puerta)

I was walking home when I saw Steve.

(Iba caminando a casa cuando vi a Steve)

Como norma general utilizamos while con aquella acción que se encuentra en progreso y utilizamos when con aquellas acciones que se cruzan o que interrumpen a la acción que estaba en progreso.

Para aclarar aun más este asuntos vamos a analizar cuales son algunas de las posibles estructuras que podemos encontrar con while y when y and:

1. [pasado continuo] + [and] + [pasado continuo]

Utilizamos esta estructura cuando estamos expresando dos acciones en progreso en el pasado pero que ninguna interrumpe a la otra. Ambas ocurren a la vez. Por ejemplo:

My brother was studying and I was washing the dishes.

(Mi hermano estaba estudiando y yo estaba lavando los platos)

2A. [While + pasado continuo] + [pasado simple]

Utilizamos esta estructura cuando estamos expresando una acción en progreso en el pasado y se cruza o interrumpe lo que alguien está haciendo otra acción. Por ejemplo:

While my brother was wathing TV his smartphone rang.

(Mientras mi hermano estaba viendo la televisión su teléfono sonó)

2B. Podemos darle la vuelta a los corchetes [Pasado simple] +[While + pasado continuo]. Por ejemplo:

His smartphone rang while he was watching TV.

Nota: Fíjate que la oración de while siempre va seguida de pasado continuo, y la siguiente en pasado simple (si la acción se cruza).

ESTRUCTURAS CON WHEN

1A. [When + pasado simple] + [Pasado continuo]

Utilizamos esta estructura cuando una acción se cruza con otra que estaba en progreso. Por ejemplo:

When he arrived home I was sleeping.

(Cuando el llegó a casa yo estaba durmiendo)

1.B [Pasado continuo] + [When + pasado simple]

Podemos darle la vuelta y entonces :

I was sleeping when he arrived home.

(Yo estaba durmiendo, cuando él llegó a casa)
